Four Departmental Committees of the National Assembly today welcomed a delegation of their counterparts from the Ukrainian Parliament. The joint sitting was made up of the Defense, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee; Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Committee; Environment, Forestry and Mining Committee, and the Committee on Regional Integration.
While welcoming the delegation, the session Chairperson Hon. Maj. (Rtd) Sheikh Abdullahi expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian delegates for the visit, and acknowledged the expected positive outcome of their consultative engagement.
The delegation led by Hon. Lesia Vasylenko highlighted that the purpose of their visit was to explore measures to promote and enhance diplomatic relations, inform Kenya of the possible trade and developmental chances available in Ukraine, as well as to identify and enhance opportunities for cooperation on matters technology, culture and youth empowerment.
She further said that they are interested in the expansion Ukrainian businesses into the Kenyan market, citing Ukraine’s vast experience and knowledge worthy of sharing, particularly with a major focus on agriculture, technology, trade and security.
“We acknowledge the support the Kenyan Government has accorded Ukraine over the last 2 years. It will be important for Kenya and Ukraine to strengthen the trade ties.”

Throughout the meeting, both delegations emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining deep and enduring ties between Ukraine and Kenya. Recognizing the value of a strong and collaborative relationship, the delegations expressed their commitment to the ongoing dialogue and cooperation, with the aim of fostering mutual understanding and prosperity, and the possibility of establishing a full fledged Kenya’s Embassy in Ukraine.
